Metatrader 4 on Linux![]() This guide will allow you to use your Metatrader software on LinuxStep 1) You should be running Linux. If not, stop here and install it. We used the Ubuntu distribution (UBUNTU 7.10) and we applied all updates available. Step 2) Install Wine. We used the latest version 0.9.54. To install Wine just download the tar file or follow the link here HTML Code: http://www.winehq.org/site/download Step 3) Install Wine Tools. You need to do this to set up certain fonts and system tools needed for MT4 to work correctly. HTML Code: http://www.von-thadden.de/Joachim/WineTools/index.html#download Step 4) Our version of Wine Tools has an error installing Microsoft Foundation Classes (under the base setup menu). It appears that the link where it tries to download 2 needed dll's is no longer valid. What we did to solve this was to copy mfc40.dll and mfc42.dll from my windows box (They are in c:\windows\system32) into ~/.wine/dosdevices/c\:/windows/system32/. Your installation of wine may differ from that slightly but if you run winetools from a terminal window, you will see where the script is attempting to save these dll files. Step 5) Install all of the fonts from WineTools. It's easy. Just a bunch of clicks and it's done Step 6) Download Metatrader 4 from FXM Broker Group for instance Step 7) From a terminal (AS A USER, NOT AS ROOT) type in the Code: Step 8) Follow the installation as usual and afterwards depending on your desktop, you should have a menu link, and/or a desktop icon to click and run mt4. If not, you can start it from the terminal. In our case the command is Code: You can also (depending on your chosen desktop) set up a launcher or icon to click if you don't have one with the same command. |
